Your First Visit

Knowing what to expect during your first visit to a new endodontist can help you feel calm and prepared for your first appointment. During your first consultation, you will get to know your new endodontist and our friendly and caring office staff. You will also have time to discuss any questions or concerns you have about the health and well-being of your tooth.

New patients at our office generally undergo a comprehensive exam in the specific area of interest, including a chairside examination and specific imaging of the tooth and area.

If you are coming in your first visit and consultation, a three dimensional scan (narrow field CBCT) will be taken of the specified area. This is a high resolution three dimensional image that provides priceless diagnostic value for your endodontist. It not only helps greatly with diagnosis, but also helps your endodontist tailor very specific treatment options for your situation. It is important that you do not wear jewelry from the neck up for this imaging. This can interfere with the quality of the scan and resulting imaging.

Discuss Your History

Your consultation is an important time to discuss the history of your situation. This is your opportunity to inform your endodontist of any details or events related to your tooth. In addition, your endodontist may also have questions about your dental history and the specific tooth of concern. This information is an important piece of the puzzle to arrive at an accurate diagnosis and develop an appropriate treatment plan for your needs.

Comprehensive Exam and Imaging

Your endodontist will inspect the area of concern, including the tooth, gums, and surrounding tissues. They may also examine your jaw and the way your teeth fit together. The clinical exam allows the endodontist to visualize everything from the outside. This exam is supplemented by dental imaging to visualize everything from inside as well. This comprehensive exam is another piece of the puzzle allowing your endodontist to diagnose the problem and determine your treatment options.

Treatment Plan

Once your examination is complete, your endodontist can discuss your treatment options with you, so that you can make an educated decision about how to proceed. Depending on your needs, your endodontist may need to discuss your case with your general dentist. If it is determined that your situation does not require endodontic treatment, your endodontist can help point you in the right direction.

How Long Will It Take?

An initial dental appointment typically takes between one and two hours. Generally, it is best to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to complete any patient forms. Preparing for your appointment in advance can help expedite the visit.

Payment Information

After your appointment, we can provide you with a personalized estimate of the cost of your treatment plan. In many cases, we can also contact your insurance provider to discuss coverage. During this appointment, you can also learn more about what types of payment we accept and the financing options we offer. Understanding your coverage and options can help you make a more informed decision about your treatment.
